Aims/Objectives:
The Brentwood Catholic Youth Service (BCYS) offers opportunities to develop the spirituality of young people and offers events, training and retreats where we work with young people to explore ethical, moral and cultural values in the context of the Catholic Faith.
These opportunities are distinctive from and complementary to the opportunities offered by schools and parishes. Our events blend faith, friendship and fun, and range from retreats and weekends away to sports competitions, Youth Masses and trips abroad. We are a registered charity, 234092.
Age Range:
We work mainly with young people aged 14-18, though our sports events are open to those in school year 6 – year 10. Our trips abroad are either 15+ or 17+. Details of all events and the age ranges are on the website. We also have a team of young leaders aged 19+ and offer them training and leadership opportunities throughout the year. Finally, we accept volunteers aged 18-27 for a gap year at our residential retreat house, Walsingham House. Full details at www.walsinghamhouse
Special Interests:
We offer a wide range of activities based in different parts of Essex and East London, with the aim of helping young Catholics and those interested in what we offer to connect with each other. We will also support through facilitation, training and resourcing a network of youth leaders in parishes. In addition to local events each year we organise 2 pilgrimages to Lourdes (with the opportunity to serve disabled and elderly people), World Youth Day (every 3rd year) and one further young adult pilgrimage (year 12+) which has included Poland, the Holy Land, and Rome in recent years. Other Relevant Information:
The Brentwood Catholic Youth Service covers the whole of the County of Essex as well as the unitary authorities of Southend and Thurrock, and the London Boroughs of Havering, Redbridge, Newham, Waltham Forest and Barking & Dagenham. We work closely with Catholic schools and parishes, but all our events are open to any young person of any faith, sympathetic to the Catholic ethos of what we offer.
