Aims/Objectives:

'Helping Others to Help Themselves' InterAct works with disadvantaged young people and adults, helping them to reach their full potential - especially in the areas of mental health and learning disability.

Age Range: 14+

Special Interests:

InterAct is a growing Essex-based charity.  It runs a range of different, but linked projects supporting disadvantaged or vulnerable young people during their transition into adult life.

Circles of Support - Through Transition brings together young people with learning disability and matched peer group/adult volunteers, enabling them not only to access a range of cultural, leisure or sporting activities, but also to build up their self-confidence and social skills/relationships.

Linked to the Learning and Skills Council's regional 'Improving Choice' initiative, InterAct's Transitions Brokers encourage and enable young people to continue their learning locally after they leave school. Transitions Brokers work with learners, families, schools, colleges and other agencies to ensure that local provision matches learner individual needs and aspirations, and to negotiate additional funding and resources where appropriate.

Other relevant information:

InterAct works County-wide in Essex, although some of its projects supporting young people are currently based only in specific areas.

Circles of Support Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.

InterAct provides nationally accredited training in Mental Health First Aid (see www.mhfaengland.org.uk) and co-ordinates the local Mindful Employer network (see: www.mindfulemployer.net).
