Aims/Objectives:
Out & About exists to enable disabled children and young people to develop the skills to access their right to full land active inclusion in life.
Special Interests:
Out & About provides support for children and young people with a range of disabilities, both physical and learning. The main aim for the support is to enable the child or young person to become fully included in their chosen mainstream leisure activity so that support is no longer needed. Because Out & About follows an ordinary life philosophy, we can provide support for young people to learn life skills and gain independence.
Our volunteers receive full training on a variety of disability issues. Their knowledge and experience is then passed on to activity leaders which enables them to break down any barriers and fully include the disabled child in their chosen activity.
Other relevant information:
Last year Out & About worked with 301 children and young people in 2034 activity sessions. We recruited 128 volunteers who provided over 10,000 hours of support. We welcome any volunteers over the age of 16, who are all subject to a criminal records bureau checks on acceptance.
