Aims/Objectives:
Support and activities for deaf children and young people.
Other Relevant Information:
We support families, children and young people in the deaf community to grow to their full potential. Through our projects we provide:
- Youth-led activities
- Family events
- Information and support
- Parents groups
- Access to mainstream youth projects
- Deaf role models
- Volunteer opportunities
Our activities welcome people with all levels of hearing impairment, as well as their friends and siblings.
We increase the opportunities available to deaf children and young people aged 5 to 25. We enable them to participate in mainstream activities and to become fully involved in their local communities. We also facilitate youth-led activities for young deaf people providing them with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to progress into adulthood.
Our families' events, supported by Essex Deaf Children's Society, bring together deaf and hearing parents and children to enjoy fun activities together, share experiences and access support. In addition, we encourage hearing parents to recognise themselves as carers and provide them with information and time out from their caring role.
We welcome hearing and deaf volunteers with BSL skills who can become involved in any aspect of the Children, Youth and Families services including arts workshops, sports activities and administration. In return, they receive valuable work experience and training.
