Aims/Objectives:

The Saffron Walden Youth Outreach Project (SWYOP) aims to provide leisure and other facilities for young people in Saffron Walden and the surrounding area.  It is the organisation and Registered Charity which runs The Goldie Youth Group, which meets every Thursday evening at the Golden Acre Community Centre, Ross Close, Saffron Walden.

Age Range: 10-19

There are two sessions:

  • 5.45 p.m.  7.45 p.m. Ages 10-13
  • 8:00 p.m. 10.00 p.m.  Ages 13-19

Young people from both age groups are involved in running the group as part of the Member Committee.

Special Interests:

The Goldie Youth Group is a new venture, and started in March 2009.  It provides various activities (pool, Wii and other computer games, art activities, chill out areas and refreshments).  It is staffed by two youth workers employed by SWYOP and volunteers from the local community, and assisted by outreach youth workers from the Uttlesford North TASCC Team.

The emphasis is on informal social interaction and education, though specific activities and trips may be organised later in the year, depending on demand.

Other relevant information:

The Golden Acre Community Centre is situated in the middle of a housing estate where there are no facilities for young people.  The aim at present is to run the group for at least a year to assess demand and the potential long-term future of youth work in this part of Saffron Walden.  The Charity is seeking funds to ensure that the Youth Group can continue beyond October 2010.
