Other relevant information:
YCT is a registered charity and a limited company. YCT provides free one2one counselling to young people in a variety of locations in Harlow including all five secondary schools and Harlow Fields Special School, St. John's School in Epping, Northgate Youth Centre in Bishops Stortford and at other locations in East Herts. We support local secondary schools in the provision of SRE through a project called L8R (a national initiative that we co-ordinate locally). We have also developed our own programme aimed at encouraging higher self-esteem and aspirations in local school-aged young women called Desire2Aspire - this 10 week course looks at a number of issues including life-skills, sexual health and relationships. This has been running regularly in two Harlow secondary schools for the last two years and is currently also being delivered in Epping. YCT is currently planning to develop a similar course for young men. More detailed information and a copy of the external independent evaluation for D2A can be obtained directly from YCT.
We also run a number of group based activities: anger management and self-esteem groups in local secondary schools either delivered by YCT staff or in partnership with the school. we can also run these kinds of groups out of school for people of differing age ranges depending on demand.
YCT can provide staff training in a number of areas including basic counselling skills, eating disorders, self-harming and anger.
Work is currently progressing on a range of new programmes to meet the varied needs of young people, one of these will make use of song writing, music and recording while another will be 'outdoor' based, encouraging young people to therapeutically engage with the natural environment while learning some traditional outdoor skills.
