Background: Kids Inspire is a replication of Kids Company (charity registration no: 1068298). We have developed our approach through advice and support with Kids Company.  This has enabled us to draw on best practice, independent research and 14 years of successful working with vulnerable inner city children.

Aims/Objectives: At Kids Inspire we recognise that issues which can so adversely affect young people and their families, such as crime and violence, are not easily or quickly resolved. Our aim is to help address the underlying causes of such issues and find effective solutions that will improve the lives of those affected. Our ethos is achieved and grounded within the importance of positive relationships. We will provide a single point of contact where children, young people and families can learn to trust. Kids Inspire recognises that every individual is unique and so our services are diverse, flexible and not time limited.

Services: At Kids Inspire we have access to a range of professionals (psychotherapists, counsellors, family therapists, social workers, artists, performers, footballers, athletes....) and volunteers who support our commitment to young people.  As well as supporting families we help deliver local training programmes directly to children and to those who work with children, including parents and carers.

Kids Inspire Services are thought about as existing in a continuum.

Universal These services introduce children in Chelmsford to our service and what we do is encourage them to think about their world and community and the feelings of those around them particularly those who may be struggling.  It offers children of all ages an opportunity to be involved and make a contribution through fundraising, peer mentoring, volunteering and contributing to our youth panel.  These services are facilitated by local young people age 14-25 for other children and young people in their area.

Threshold Services Our Threshold Services sit at Tier 2 1/2 of the existing services model and are for families who do not consistently meet the threshold criteria for Tier 3. They do though have developing and emerging mental health and social difficulties but not have been offered or been able to engage in sustained, ongoing input.

Complex Cases Cases can either be deemed complex at referral, upon assessment or during the course of Kids Inspire input.  However, cases may oscillate between threshold and complex status or may sit centrally on a conituum.

The Complex Case Team Complex care staff will be qualified professionals with at least 2 years post qualifying experience but generally many more years of training and relevant work experience. This will be a multi-professional, including systemic psychotherapist, music therapy, arts based psychotherapy, therapeutically trained and experienced teachers and social workers.  We will also as appropriate use trainee and newly qualified therapists under supervision.  There will also be access to experienced alternative therapy practitioners.
